Introduction of Yuan Nan Primary School

I. Profile

    Yuan Nan Primary School, which was founded as one of the complementary projects to the construction of Yuan Nan Residential Quarter, is situated to the south of Shanghai Botanical Garden, with its neat and clean campus surrounded by trees and flowers. In the sunshine or the twilight, students of the 27 classes are reading aloud, beating drums, playing swords, and having all kinds of live activities which combine to form a beautiful song of growth and happiness. The high quality of education the school provides gives assurance to the parents and wins praise from the people around. The school boasts excellent facilities: the play-ground with plastic tracks where the students can play and have physical activities to their hearts’ content; an up-to-date school network consisting of computer rooms, close-circuit TV system, classrooms equipped with multimedia technology, and telecommunication cables, which enables the teachers and students to communicate quickly and conveniently.what is more, a group of young teachers who have good qualifications and practical skills, and display a spirit of coordination and teamwork, are growing up. They are good at learning from practice, quick to use new ideas and methods, and determined to make new breakthroughs; and in doing so, they have won honors for the school. So far, our school has been a pilot in several research endeavors, and a center and base for innovative experiments. Focusing on the healthy development of the students, the school has made great efforts to cultivate the correct values of talent, education, and quality, and improve the level of school management.

Supported by their desire for the pursuit of excellence, they have been seeking the advanced thinking and concepts, employing a scientific attitude in their exploration and innovation, and trying to secure development at a higher level through success.

1.  Guidelines for Running School

    Faced with the challenges of the new era, the school has formulated the new guidelines for management:

¨         Goal: Cultivating a faculty that is politically sound and professionally active and innovative; building a modern, garden-like campus in which the students can study and grow in an all-round manner, and the teacher can develop academically.

¨         Style of Teaching: Be strict, practical, ingenious, original.

2.      Course to Follow:

    Using the new round of reform in basic education as an opportunity, the improvement in teachers’ professional development as the basis, and the deepening of quality education as the center, the school has, over the past few years, done the following:

¨         Building a team—teachers who work conscientiously, practise actively, and think originally.

¨         Working on two fronts—intensifying reform in classroom teaching and bringing about transformation of way of learning.

¨         Consolidating three mechanisms—setting up clear goal for guidance; optimizing organization; introducing methods of assessment to reward achievements, and rules for proper behaviors.

¨         Giving priority to four areas—new way of thinking, administration, scientific research, and quality of work.

¨         Carrying out five priciples—clear division of responsibility among different branches; the sharing of common goals by the school and parents; mutual promotion between reform, research, and development; giving equal attention to science courses and humanities; and the flowering of regular subjects and new, exploratory courses together.
